Packing & Travelling

You can hardly contain the excitement when it comes to the idea of catching a flight to somewhere, anywhere other than where you are right now.  But then when your mind wanders to what to take, the sense of what you will need and what you want to take is a controversy that many of us face.  Why not just pack everything, take as much luggage as needed to fit all this in and be done with it?  Sounds reasonable until such times as you are paying extra to check your luggage at the airport and then the dilemma of having to actually transport and cart your luggage around!

Hence packing guides are a fantastic way to ensure that you take the essentials on your trip, don’t damage any ligaments whilst trying to carry your luggage and keeps the dollars in your pocket.

Starting with the right type of luggage is essential.  It is then practical that you have luggage to suit the type of travel you are intending to do.  From overnight stays to longer, overseas trips, hiking adventures, backpacking adventures to day trips, there is luggage available to suit all travel plans.  So here are a few ideas to help sort out your packing woes.

Day trip - There are many sachels on the market that are suitable for men and women.  It can be quite a hectic time if you are travelling within a 24 hour time frame.  It is an idea to pack a hand towel and personal hygiene items such as deodorent.  A spare shirt is also an idea rolled instead of folded and in a travel friendly fabric that does not crease.

Overnight Stay – Duffel bags and small compact suitcases are ideal for an overnight stay.  They will hold clothes, personal items, shoes and if needed electrical items.  These can easily be stowed in the overhead compartments of the plan and therefore making it quicker to check in and out of the terminal.  If you travel quite frequently, it is an idea to invest in clothing that is specifically made for travel.  It is light, easily stored and is crinkle free.

Long / Overseas trips – Suitcases that have wheels and a handle are perfect for long haul travel.  The items that you need to pack are quite substantial and can make the packed suitcase quite heavy.  To get maximum load in the luggage, always roll your clothing and pack quite tight together.

Security – When travelling, it is always an idea to have a name tag on your luggage and make it easily recognisable to you.  Ensure that you invest in locks that are tamper proof if you are checking luggage in and have a contact place should your luggage not end up in your hands.
